The situation in Siem Reap right now

Time for an update! Siem Reap is going through HUGE changes at the moment. 38 roads are being expanded and widened, and people are given very short warnings to tear down fences, walls and whole houses in this process. On their own bill. A lot of people loose their homes and their businesses. In this rough time where people already struggle after loosing jobs because of the lack of tourism, this is a really tough situation for many.

But we also see a lot of positivity around town. In our own street people are happy to get a proper road with proper walkways. The water system will be massively improved as well in this whole process, and also the electric grid will get better. It looks like every corner will be cut to improve road safety. Even cycling lanes are being build.

This corner used to be the most dangerous on our way to preschool with Eline every morning. Now it´s safe, easy to spot a vehicle coming.
