Best Time to Visit Angkor Wat

Getting to Siem Reap Is Easier Than You Think

Many travelers wonder: “How do I get to Angkor Wat?”

Some people assume that visiting Siem Reap requires complicated travel planning. In reality, reaching Cambodia’s cultural capital is surprisingly easy thanks to excellent international connections. For most travelers, it simply means one short connecting flight from a major Asian hub.

When flying between Europe and Southeast Asia, many travelers assume that flights almost always connect through airports in the Middle East, such as Dubai, Doha, or Abu Dhabi. These airports have become famous global transit points thanks to large airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways.

However, many flights actually take a different route. Instead of passing through the Middle East, some airlines fly directly across Central Asia or connect through East Asian hubs.

Direct Europe–Asia Flights

Several airlines operate long nonstop flights between major European cities and Southeast Asia. Examples include:

  • Singapore Airlines — London → Singapore

  • British Airways — London → Singapore

  • Air France — Paris → Bangkok

  • Lufthansa — Frankfurt → Singapore / Ho Chi Minh City

  • Vietnam Airlines — Munich → Ho Chi Minh City / Hanoi

These flights make reaching Southeast Asia faster and more convenient than many travelers expect.

The East Asia Hub Route

Another alternative that sometimes offers cheaper fares is connecting through East Asia.

Flights following this route travel further east before turning south toward Southeast Asia. Common connection cities include:

  • Hong Kong

  • Taipei

  • Shanghai

  • Beijing

Airlines that often use these hubs include:

  • Cathay Pacific

  • EVA Air

  • Several major Chinese airlines

Final Connection to Siem Reap

Travelers coming from Europe or other long-haul destinations typically connect through one of four major regional hubs:

  • Bangkok

  • Singapore

  • Hanoi

  • Ho Chi Minh City

From any of these airports, it’s just a 1–2 hour direct flight to Siem Reap.

Once you arrive, we can arrange for one of our drivers to pick you up at the airport and take you on the final 50-minute drive to Babel Guesthouse or Babel Boutique Hotel.
