Siem Reap doesn't stop when the temples close
Some of the best experiences in Siem Reap happen after dark. Whether you are looking for world-class circus performance, ancient Khmer dance, or learning to cook your favourite Cambodian dishes from scratch — we have got you covered.
All evening experiences can be booked directly at reception. We recommend booking ahead during high season (November–March) as these sell out fast. Contact us by email for pre-bookings: babelsiemreap@gmail.com
Phare: The Cambodian Circus
Siem Reap's top-rated evening show — and one of the best things you can do in Cambodia full stop.
Phare is not your typical circus. No animals, no sequins, no clichés. Instead, extraordinary Cambodian storytelling through theatre, dance, acrobatics, and live music. Every show tells a different story drawn from Cambodian history, folklore, and modern life. High energy, emotional, and loved equally by adults and children.
The show starts at 8pm sharp and does not admit latecomers. Arrive from 5:30pm to enjoy street food and a pre-show atmosphere in the garden.
Tuk Tuk return from Babel: $10
Book at reception — at least 2 days ahead in high season if you are more than two people in your group
Why we love it: In 18 years we have never heard a guest say they didn't enjoy Phare. It is one of those rare experiences that genuinely surprises people.
Traditional Apsara Dancing
Apsara is a Khmer dance-drama that brings ancient mythology and history to life. Every gesture — from the curl of a finger to the arch of a foot — is a sacred movement passed down for over a thousand years.
The art was nearly lost during the Khmer Rouge era (1975–1979), when most of Cambodia's artists and masters were killed. A handful of surviving masters kept the tradition alive, and after the war worked tirelessly to teach a new generation. UNESCO now recognises Apsara as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
We recommend two venues:
Apsara Theater (Wat Bo) The most authentic and atmospheric venue in town. Set in a beautiful colonial wooden building.
Dinner from 7:30pm | Show from 8:30pm
Kanell Restaurant A more relaxed, family-friendly option in a lush tropical garden setting. Alongside Apsara, Kanell also features Bokator — Cambodia's ancient martial art. Menu by one of Cambodia's top chefs.
Dinner and show from 7pm
Our reception team can explain the different menus and make a reservation for you.
