Globalstudies: Bridging Education & Practice
The commitment to education at Babel goes beyond our daily operations. Our founders, Katrine and Simen, established a dedicated sister company called Globalstudies to formalize our academic partnerships.
Through Globalstudies, we maintained a long-term collaboration with the Norwegian School of Hotel Management. This partnership provided students with the unique opportunity to complete part of their Bachelor’s Degree in Siem Reap, specializing in Responsible Tourism.
Why Globalstudies Mattered
Globalstudies acted as the bridge between Norwegian academic rigor and the practical realities of the Cambodian hospitality industry. Our philosophy for these students was built on a foundation of three core pillars:
Applied Learning: We moved students away from textbooks and into real-world environments. They learned by physically visiting operators who championed sustainable practices.
Active Contribution: Education at Babel was a two-way street. Students didn't just observe; they participated. Whether they were organizing community garbage-picking events, fundraising for our local initiatives, or taking over daily operations at the hotel while we took our staff on yearly staff trips, students learned the true impact of their work through "learning by doing."
Global Perspective: By bringing international hospitality standards to the local Cambodian context, we prepared the next generation of industry leaders to think globally and act locally.
Groups from around the world
We regularly host groups from around the world, where we share ideas about responsible tourism and talk about the challenges of plastic pollution in Cambodia and beyond.
