Situation at Babel Guesthouse 2021

BlogPost from 6th of January 2021

New year, time for a new update. Babel Guesthouse is still closed because of construction work in our garden. But we are still here, the same team - stronger than ever. We will keep you posted on when we open again!

Because of the fundraising we have been able to provide 50% salaries to all our staff this whole time with no tourists, and we have provided jobs to our Tuk Tuk drivers to help us build up our garden again.

We have 28 people (with all their families) depending on our survival. During the fundraising we made 8 videos to describe specific situations for specific people - for you to get a deeper understanding. All videos can be found on our YouTube Channel.

We have opened up a little plastic-free nursery here with children from around the world - giving full time jobs to three of our wonderful staff at Babel.

Srey Red, Surann and Sopha - our amazing staff running our plastic-free nursery.

This whole time we have provided jobs for our Tuk Tuk drivers who work on our garden area with the restaurant and the kitchen - to make it ready for when tourism slowly will pick up again. We are still providing jobs while doing the last finish right now.

And because of our Christmas pack campaign we could continue running our Eco-shop even without tourists. We sold 35 family packs and 22 packs for one person - making a lot of locals happy!

Right now we are continuing our work in the garden, and will slowly open our restaurant again offering healthy and child friendly food. Planning to have a lot of plant based options. And we plan to eventually open the guesthouse again, but we are not in a rush just yet.

Right now we are working on finding new ways to survive this. We have many plans, and we will keep you updated! So STAY TUNED!!
