A Positive Outlook for Siem Reap Tourism
As the new year begins, there are plenty of reasons to stay positive about tourism in Siem Reap. While recent border tensions with Thailand have affected overland travel, flights and international access remain open, and many visitors continue to choose Cambodia as a destination.
Angkor temples and other cultural sites are major draws, with travelers coming to experience the history, heritage, the food, and the unique culture that Siem Reap offers.
Local tourism operators are actively reassuring visitors about safety and stability, helping maintain confidence in the destination. Check out the new collective tourism campaign: #StillCambodia. This campaign is highlighting positive, authentic travel content from across Cambodia.
“Still Cambodia” reassures Siem Reap tourists, over safe, peaceful sojourns - Khmer Times.
Travelers are increasingly seeking meaningful experiences - history, culture, food, and spirituality - all areas where Siem Reap really excels. We are seeing a trend where our guests are staying longer, traveling in smaller groups, and exploring beyond the temples. Our Village Tours are extremely popular!
Siem Reap also continues to offer great value, with affordable accommodation, dining, and tours. Growing interest in eco-tourism, cycling, wellness, and local food is diversifying the visitor experience and encouraging guests to come back again.
Despite ongoing challenges, government support and private-sector investment show confidence in the city’s future. Siem Reap is steadily strengthening its role as a cultural and sustainable destination, rather than just a short stopover.
Improved air connectivity is making travel easier than ever. Direct and regional flights from neighbouring countries, India, and other Asian markets continue to grow, while new routes from Europe and other parts of Asia are expanding access and supporting Cambodia’s tourism rebound.
New long-haul and connecting routes include Emirates with a service between Dubai and Siem Reap. Turkish Airlines just started its three-times-weekly flights from Istanbul to Phnom Penh. Etihad Airways has also started a direct Abu Dhabi to Phnom Penh flight, providing another strong Middle Eastern link for visitors from Europe and other global markets.
IndiGo now operates direct flights between Kolkata (India) and Siem Reap, the first Indian carrier to connect the two destination. AirAsia Cambodia launched new direct services from Singapore to Siem Reap and Firefly Airlines has introduced direct Kuala Lumpur to Siem Reap flights, offering a very convenient access from Malaysia.
These expanded flight options, along with ongoing efforts to encourage more routes (including potential future links with South Korea), are helping make travel to Cambodia smoother and more accessible for visitors from Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, and throughout Asia — supporting tourism growth in Siem Reap and across the country.
